The Crafting Menu

Overview

Don't Starve Together's crafting menu was rebuilt into a clean system of searchable filters. Most recipes you can learn at the right station — but some can never be prototyped at all.

Two kinds of recipe

Recipes are grouped into filters so you can find what you need fast. Those filters fall into two camps: the everyday Regular recipes you prototype at a science or magic station, and the Prototyping Impossible recipes locked behind events, ruins and special conditions.

The Everyday Kit

Regular Filters

Regular filters cover the bread-and-butter of survival: the recipes you unlock by prototyping at the appropriate station, then keep forever.

Survival & tools

Survivor Items, Tools, Light Sources and Prototypers & Stations — the very first things you build to make it through night one.

Materials & building

Refined Materials, Structures, Storage Solutions and Decorations — everything that turns a campfire into a base.

Combat

Weapons, Armour and Healing — the kit you bring to a fight and the bandages you bring home.

Clothing & seasons

Clothing plus Winter Items, Summer Items and Rain Gear — dressing for a world that swings from freezing to blistering.

Food & the sea

Cooking, Food & Gardening, Fishing, Seafaring and Beefalo Riding — feeding yourself and getting around.

How prototyping works

To learn a regular recipe you stand near the right station — a Science Machine, Alchemy Engine, magic station and so on — and prototype it once. After that it's permanently in your crafting menu, buildable anywhere you have the ingredients.

Filter, don't scroll: the redesigned menu lets you search and filter recipes by category, so finding the exact item you need is far faster than the old tab-by-tab hunt.

Recipes You Can't Teach Yourself

Prototyping Impossible

Some recipes carry the label 'prototyping impossible' — no science machine will ever teach them. Instead they unlock through events, rare stations, or specific conditions.

Event recipes

Special Event, Cawnival Creation and Winter's Feast Cooking filters only appear while their seasonal event is running — craft them now or wait a year.

Ancient & ruins

Ancient Pseudoscience recipes are unlocked deep in the ruins at the Ancient Pseudoscience Station, gating the most powerful Thulecite gear behind exploration.

Celestial & lunar

The Celestial and Brightsmithy filters come from the moon and the Lunar Island — late-game tech tied to the Return of Them story.

Specialist crafts

Cartography, Critters, Mad Science, Offerings, Sculptures, Seasonings and Trinket Trove cover companions, decoration, cooking flavour and the oddities that don't fit anywhere else.

Why some recipes are locked

These restrictions exist to make discovery meaningful. You can't shortcut your way to ruins gear or moon tech from a starting base — you have to go find the station, survive the event, or earn the condition first.

Plan ahead: if you want event cosmetics or recipes, catch the event while it's live. Many of these filters simply vanish from the menu when their season ends.

Now you know what to build

Crafting keeps you alive — but the bosses decide how far you get.
